My migration to
America was a great opportunity, however, I did not know what
I was going to do when I entered the United States.
My decision making was poor because I could not think of anything
to do after high school, so I decided to go to the work force
and work for little or nothing. But by the help of MentorPower
and the advise of my mentor, Stanley, I decided to pursue
a higher education.
Stanley is the person that helped me make lifetime decisions
in this country that I entered as an immigrant, who in fact
advised me carefully to pursue a higher education, and showed
me the path to go about doing it. Stanley was a very
kind and generous mentor to me. He helped me with assignments.
We did environmental projects together because we were part
of an organization called MentorPower.
The
program was designed to bring together educated, talented
and skillful teenagers in a good environment.
One time we worked on a project that was introduced to a large
audience about the value of oil. He even introduced
me to people that I did not know before our meeting.
The
staff, at MentorPower, are very kind. They motivate, inspire,
and teach teenagers that are willing to learn.
I
remember one time we went on a trip to General Motors Company
in North Jersey. I told Stanley while we were there,
that I was going to drop out of high school because I was
not receiving support from my parents. Right away he
told me that I didn’t need my parents to take me through the
stress that I was going
through because I had MentorPower on my side, and MentorPower
chose Stanley to be my mentor, therefore I do not need to
worry about anything. He told me that, they will represent
as my parents when and where I need them. From that
day, I motivated myself and became one of the top twenty
students in my high school learning community and even received
an academic award at the end of the year.
Being a mentor requires a lot of patience and sacrifices.
You have to share some of what you have, for example, your
time and your knowledge. MentorPower really helped me
a lot. They have done things for me that are invaluable
and I appreciate all that they have done for me.
May
God bless the staff of MentorPower and touch their donors
to give to this organization continually.
